Jewish Funeral Service | Beth El Mausoleum of Boca Raton

Learn About Jewish Funeral Services

The funeral service consists of two parts: words spoken in honor of the deceased, and the entombment service. It is customary at a Jewish funeral to read passages from the Bible and other meaningful readings, which seek to honor the person who has died. These passages are also meant to offer consolation to those who survive.

The most important part of a Jewish funeral service is the eulogies offered in honor and memory of the deceased. A eulogy may be offered by the person officiating at the service and may also be offered by loved ones who knew the person well. There is no obligation for family members to offer a eulogy, however many find the process of composing and offering thoughts and remembrances to be healing and cathartic.

The service concludes with the chanting of the prayer, El Maley Rachamim, which speaks of God’s compassion, and prayers for the deceased to be comforted and to rest in peace.

Mike Sirowitz, Mausoleum Director at the Beth El Mausoleum, a reform synagogue located in Boca Raton, FL

Meet Our Mausoluem Director

Mike Sirowitz, a native New Yorker, had the opportunity to retire early and relocate to Boca Raton in 2017. He immediately joined Temple Beth El, and became a valued member of the temple community. So much so that he agreed to “unretire” and become the Beth El Mausoleum Director when the opportunity arose.  Since then, Mike has helped countless people throughout the South Florida Jewish community with their end-of-life arrangements at the Beth El Mausoleum. Through his kindness and expertise, he has earned the reputation as a warm and caring individual who is honored to help families and individuals every step of the way on what may be a difficult journey.

In addition to helping you with your arrangements at the Beth El Mausoleum, Mike can assist with anything additional you may need – arranging an appointment with a licensed Social Worker to help you and your loved ones during the grieving process, connecting you with hospice, or providing information on bereavement support groups, elder care law firms, funeral homes or social services agencies.
